We are one proud to be just one of a handful of Practices in the UK able to offer Fotona’s NightLase® therapy to help treat snoring and sleep apnea.
Snoring is extremely common but can severely impact yours and your loved ones lives. Habitual snorers and their partners can be left exhausted and irritable after the disrupted night’s sleep. The lack of sleep can also impair memory and concentration. Snoring often puts stress on relationships and can even decrease sex drive. You may even find yourselves having to sleep in a separate room to your other half. Snoring can also cause more serious health issues as getting good quality sleep is important in helping protect mental and physical health.
Snoring can be a sign of obstructive sleep apnea which if left untreated can put you at higher risk of high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, type 2 diabetes and reduced brain function, including poor memory and learning.
Some people may find themselves feeling embarrassed that they snore and therefore reluctant to seek help. Our friendly team will immediately help to put you at ease, from the very first phone call. There is no need to feel embarrassed, we are here to help.
During your first visit to us regarding snoring, we will complete an initial consultation. We will take a detailed history which will include carefully screening both social and medical aspects. Then we examine your head and neck and look in your mouth.
Snoring treatments we offer:
Fotona’s NightLase® Therapy
NightLase® therapy is a non-invasive, patient-friendly laser treatment for increasing the quality of your sleep. NightLase® therapy reduces the effects of sleep apnea and decreases the amplitude of snoring by means of a gentle laser application which causes the contraction of collagen in the soft tissues at the back of your mouth.
A full course of NightLase® therapy consists of between three and five separate 30-minute treatment sessions, approximately 3 weeks apart. The final results of the treatment have been shown to last up to a year, so we recommend annual maintenance treatment.
Patients find NightLase® therapy to be a highly comfortable and satisfying solution. NightLase® therapy requires no device to be worn during sleep and involves no chemical treatment. It’s a gentle and easy way for your patients to regain a good night’s rest.
Mandibular Advancement Splint
A mandibular advancement splint is a device worn at night. It holds the lower jaw and tongue forward to enable more space to breathe which helps prevent snoring. Mandibular advancement splints are often effective for ‘tongue base snorers’. It is a two-piece appliance that has a soft inner liner. It hooks together at the front of your mouth and you can slowly advance your lower jaw forward.
Weight loss is the single most effective way to reduce snoring. At Lonsdale Dental Centre, we offer the services of a qualified Nutritionist to help you reach your goal. Click here to read about our Nutritionist, Annie Gill, and how she can help you.
Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)
We work as part of a multidisciplinary team along with your GP and secondary care practitioners. We will screen you for the signs and symptoms which may predict the presence of OSA. We will discuss a referral for sleep-related breathing disorders because a proper medical assessment of patients who exhibit signs and symptoms of OSA is essential and further treatment we can provide for you here at CAPI can only be provided as part of an integrated treatment plan.
